Fleas, ants, cockroaches, carpet beetles and other insects can turn up anywhere: carpets, cupboards, furniture, upholstery and cracks in the walls.
Signs to look for
- Fleas: itchy bites around the ankles and pets scratching more than usual
- Ants: trails along worktops, skirting boards or from a crack in the floor
- Cockroaches: seen at night in kitchens, bathrooms or near warm pipes
- Carpet beetles: small round holes in carpets, clothes or wool rugs
Why it matters
Cockroaches spread bacteria onto food and surfaces and are a serious problem for food businesses. Fleas bite people and pets, and most insects multiply quickly if left untreated.
The longer ants, fleas & cockroaches are left, the bigger the job. If you have seen the signs, it is worth acting now.

Do I need to treat my pets as well as the house for fleas?
Yes. Fleas live on pets and lay eggs that drop into carpets and bedding, so treating your pets with a vet-recommended product alongside the house treatment is essential.
Are cockroaches a sign of a dirty home?
Not necessarily. They can spread between connected buildings through pipes and ducts, especially in flats. Treating them early stops them spreading.
Can you deal with ants I can see coming in from the garden?
Yes. Treating where they are entering, and the nest where it can be found, is the most effective approach.
